Communication and networking technologies for UAVs: A survey

Abstract: With the advancement in drone technology, in just a few years, drones will be assisting humans in every domain. But there are many challenges to be tackled, communication being the chief one. This paper aims at providing insights into the latest UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) communication technologies through investigation of suitable task modules, antennas, resource handling platforms, and network architectures. Additionally, we explore techniques such as machine learning and path planning to enhance existing… Show more

“…Several survey papers were published recently highlighting issues related to the security of UAVs such as, secure communication, intrusion detection, and security of the routing protocols used by UAVs [11], [16]- [19]. Most of these survey papers have discussed UAVs' security in a very sophisticated manner, However, to the best of our knowledge, only few of the existing survey papers have reflected upon the vulnerabilities of the UAVs' security protocols.…”

“…Depending on the application, this coordination sought between the vehicles of the system can be approached from different points of view. In some cases, it may be necessary to coordinate the position and movements to maintain communication between UAVs in order to exchange some kind of information [ 6 ]. In other cases, this may be necessary to cover an area in a coordinated manner [ 7 ] and may also be needed to manipulate an object jointly [ 8 ].…”
