Abstract:The placenta is comprised of specialized epithelial cell types, collectively referred to as trophoblast cells, situated among mesenchymal cells and vasculature, at the maternal-fetal interface. Trophoblast stem and progenitor cell populations give rise to specialized trophoblast cell lineages these cells differentiate into trophoblast giant cells, spongiotrophoblast cells, glycogen trophoblast cells, invasive trophoblast cells, and syncytiotrophoblast.
