Common Model EMI Prediction in Motor Drive System for Electric Vehicle Application

Abstract: -Common mode (CM) conducted interference are predicted and compared with experiments in a motor drive system of Electric vehicles in this study. The prediction model considers each part as an equivalent circuit model which is represented by lumped parameters and proposes the parameter extraction method. For the modeling of the inverter, a concentrated and equivalent method is used to process synthetically the CM interference source and the stray capacitance. For the parameter extraction in the power line model… Show more

“…In this section, possible interactions between common mode currents created by inverter and EMC/EMI related problems of an AGV is discussed briefly. Common mode currents (CMC) induced by common-mode voltages of inverter and its effect on bearing failures have been studied extensively in industrial applications and recently realized as a design and application problem in electric vehicles [62][63][64][65][66][67][68][69][70][71].…”

“…Measurement of shaft voltages by measurement instruments like in [51] is the practical way to evaluate the risks of bearing currents and potential EMI risks as well. Detailed analysis and solution proposals on CMC are studied in [62][63][64][65][66][67][68][69][70][71].…”

“…Baitade A. et al [8] studied the harmonic suppression and power factor improvement technology of three phase asynchronous motor drive system using passive LC element, but lacked the analysis of the magnetic field of each part of the driving motor. Yang et al [9] predicted the common mode interference, and compared with the experiment in the drive system of electric vehicle, but lacked of software simulation analysis. Guo et al [10] described the equivalent circuit of the drive system under different working conditions in detail, but the stability of the internal structure of the drive system was not studied.…”

“…However, the switching loss in IGBT is quite large and the reverse recovery loss caused by the anti-parallel diode of IGBT still remains in the system. The reverse recovery current causes unwanted EMI noise in the circuit and additional efficiency reduction in the system [22][23][24]. In the worst case, the reverse recovery current has the excessive peak value, this current leads to the destruction of the switching devices.…”
