Abstract:This chapter summarizes the common-coil dipole research and development program at the Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL). The program goals included: (a) the development of accelerator-quality dipoles based on the commoncoil design concept; (b) the demonstration of "react-and-wind" technology for high field collider dipole magnets; and (c) the development and demonstration of a novel background field test facility with a large open space.
