“…The use of synthetic fungicides is the most common method of postharvest disease control (Zikos et al. ); however, for many fruit for export, including avocado, the application of fungicides is not an option. Prusky and Kobiler () mentioned that ‘new, strict regulations regarding fungicide residues, and the reductions by local authorities of the legal acceptability limits of specific fungicides make the development of new postharvest decay‐control treatments for fruits an important factor in improving their quality, and their safety for humans and the environment'.…”

“…The top 12 drug-like compounds populate five distinct classes ( Figure 6 ). The benzimidazole-containing compound carbendazim is a well-known fungicide widely used in agricultural production ( Zikos et al, 2015 ). In addition, recently the benzimidazole class of compounds have been shown to inhibit a G+ bacterium, Staphylococcus aureus by targeting DNA gyraseB enzyme ( Janupally et al, 2014 ).…”

“…A broadly specific polyclonal antibody showed selectivity to eleven organothiophosphate pesticides and five organophosphate pesticides [39]. Using the second approach, three 2-(2-aminoethyl) benzimidazole, 2-benzimidazole propionic acid, and 2-mercaptobenzimidazole have been conjugated to keyhole limpet hemocyanin, and the resulting mixture was used as the immunogen [40]. The obtained antibody could recognize carbendazim and other benzimidazole-type fungicides.…”
