Abstract:The reasons for dividing the lens nucleus into 8 sections are as follows: first, to decrease phacoemulsification time and cumulative dissipated energy; second, to decrease volume and facilitate movement out of the lens capsule; and third, to ensure holding with the ultrasound tip and minimize contact with the corneal endothelial cells.
