Comment on “Head-on collision of electron acoustic solitary waves in a plasma with nonextensive hot electrons”

Abstract: In a recent paper "Head-on collision of electron acoustic solitary waves in a plasma with nonextensive hot electrons" [Astrophys. Space Sci. 338, 271-278 (2012)] Eslami, Mottaghizadeh and Pakzad deal with the problem of the head-on collisions between two weakly nonlinear electronacoustic solitary waves. Unfortunately, their treatment is deficient and leads to erroneous conclusions.

“…Since in the generic case all first-order quantities vanish, it has been implicitly assumed in the papers quoted [3,5,6,8,[10][11][12][13]15] that this is the only case worth considering. Eslami et al [9,14] start the expansions at order ε, but then proceed as though this were the generic case, and get thoroughly confused, so that their results are wrong [20].…”

“…Ignoring this root and taking β = β c , the quadratic nonlinearity in the KdV equations (24) disappears and in (18) we must keep the contributions in ϕ 1 . Moreover, (20) simplifies to…”

“…Ideally, we expect that the collision will be quasielastic, so the collision will only result in a change of trajectory or phase shift for each colliding wave. In order to obtain the basic results to analyze the collision process, we employ an extended Poincaré-LighthillKuo (PLK) perturbation method (Chatterjee et al 2010;Verheest 2012;Carbonaro 2012;El-Tantawy and Djebarni 2014;Han et al 2014b). According to this method, first we introduce the stretched coordinates…”

“…More recently, Wang et al (2013) investigated the existence of rouge waves and solitary waves in such plasma. Furthermore, the properties of wave-wave interaction are also studied by Eslami et al (2012) and Verheest (2012). Thus, the basic features of nonlinear waves in such plasmas are quite well understood.…”
