“…From an initial 125 identified manuscripts, all the retrieved titles and abstracts were screened to discard repeated articles, leading to a total of 52 evaluable papers: 31 papers relating to Actim® PROM, 11 papers relating to AmniSure®, and 10 referring to both biomarkers. “…This was similar to the study by Kafali et al in which the mean vaginal fluid urea level was 34.6 mg/dl in the confirmed PROM group and 1.3 mg/dl in the control group, where the difference was statistically significant (p<0.001). 4,7 The cut off value of urea was calculated using ROC curve, it was found to be 8.55 mg/dl for the present study. In the study by Kafali et al the cut off was 12 mg/dl.…”

“…The study design does not correspond to the bed-side situation where amniotic fluid is contaminated by vaginal discharge or other possible fluids like urine, semen or blood that may affect the test result causing false positives, if the test is too sensitive. A high rate of positive PAMG-1 test results has been found among patients with intact membranes and labor at term [18] and in patients with a short cervix [19]. This data has not been considered when analyzing the specificity of PAMG-1 test.…”
