In diesel engines, emission formation inside the combustion chamber is a complex phenomenon. The combustion events inside the chamber occur in microseconds, affecting the overall engine performance and emissions characteristics. This study opted for using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to investigate the combustion patterns and how these events affect nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions. In this study, a diesel engine model with a flat combustion chamber (FCC) was developed for the simulation. The simulation result of the heat release rate (HRR) and cylinder pressure was validated with the experimental test data (the engine test was conducted at 1500 rpm at full load conditions). The validated model and its respective boundary conditions were used to investigate the effect of modified combustion chamber profiles on NOx emissions. Modified chambers, such as a bathtub combustion chamber (BTCC) and a shallow depth chamber (SCC), were developed, and their combustion events were analysed with respect to the FCC. This study revealed that combustion events such as fuel distribution, unburnt mass fractions, temperature and turbulent zones directly impact NOx emissions. The modified chambers controlled the spread of combustion and provided better fuel distribution, improving engine performance and combustion rates. The SCC (63.2 bar) showed peak pressure rates compared to the FCC (63.02 bar) and BTCC (62.72 bar). This study concluded that the SCC showed better results than other chambers. This study further recommends conducting lean fuel mixture combustion with chamber modifications and optimising fuel spray, such as by adjusting the fuel injection profile, spray angle and injection timing, which has a better tendency to create complete combustion.

In this paper, the performance and emission characteristics of a diesel engine were investigated with varying ratios of tung oil-based biodiesel blends (B10, B20, and B50) and neat diesel under different operating conditions. The experimental results showed that the addition of biodiesel blends had different effects on engine power and torque depending on the blend ratio. B10 displayed a slight increase in power and torque, which increased by 1.9% and 6.6%. At the same time, B20 and B50 showed declines slightly. The fuel consumption rate increased slightly with an increasing percentage of biodiesel added. In general, all the blends exhibited significantly lower emissions of CO, NOX, HC, and smoke compared to neat diesel. B10 displayed the most notable reduction of CO emissions, with a 42.86% decrease at medium to high loads. NOX emissions of tung oil-based biodiesel blends were reduced at all load conditions except for B50. In addition, HC emissions were all reduced, especially for B20, which led to a 27.54% reduction at 50% load. Among all the tested blends, B50 showed the greatest decrease in smoke emissions of 38.05% compared to neat diesel at 2000 rpm. The research concluded that using biodiesel fuels from renewable resources, such as tung oil, presents a promising environmentally friendly alternative fuel option.

In current trends the wood pellets are very significance role in the replacing of boiler fuel; it is a surrogate and renewable fuel. For this study comparative analysis of the fuel performance in the boiler is carried out effectively. Two categorize of fuel like as raw wood pellets and wood pellets are immersed in the bio- ethanol are taken to this experimental work. The thermal characteristics and thermal efficiency of the boiler with influence of two types of fuels are conducted efficiently. Normally the wood pellets having small pores it is used to absorb the bio ethanol while in immersion. Amid in the two fuels, wood pellets immersed in the bio ethanol are provided and increase the thermal properties as well as thermal efficiency compared to raw pellets. The flue gas constituent?s percentage such as carbon monoxide, oxygen, carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides are analyzed, additionally the high temperature of flue gas also measured in the outlet of the chimney. No alteration is made in the boiler setup which is comfortable to both fuels.
