“…Al-Si alloys have wide application in the manufacturing of various machinery parts and components, due to their prominent properties, such as high specific strength, low thermal expansion, good castability, low costs, etc. [1,2]. Recently, some Al-Si alloys with near-eutectic compositions, e.g., AlSi10Mg and AlSi12, were considered as prospective materials in the additive manufacturing of aluminum alloy products [3].…”

“…In practice, aluminum piston suppliers use a wide range of optimized alloy compositions that are generally based on silumins (such as Al-7% Si hypoeutectic, Al-12% Si eutectic, and hypereutectic alloys with 18 and 24% Si) [ 14 , 15 , 16 , 17 ]. Particle-reinforced aluminum matrix composites (PAIMCs), mainly those with silicon carbide (SiCp), are very promising and may provide an alternative to the currently used un-reinforced Al–Si alloys [ 18 , 19 , 20 , 21 , 22 ].…”

“…It leads to a situation where the manufacturers of pistons consider all structural and operational factors more rigorously, which translates into a careful selection of materials and development of precise manufacturing technologies [5]. One should remember that selection of the materials for pistons of internal combustion engines constitutes a compromise between the structural requirements, technical properties of the individual materials, and technological possibilities for the manufacturing while maintaining a proper economical level [6][7][8][9]. In contemporary engines, pistons made of AlSi casting alloys are used most frequently.…”
