“…CBT was based on the principles described by Beck (19) and included behavioral activation and cognitive restructuring according to a session-bysession protocol with homework assignments. Short-term psychodynamic supportive psychotherapy (18,(20)(21)(22)(23)(24) was used to represent the psychodynamic intervention. Os tratamentos combinados (psicoterapia e medicamento) têm sido utilizados principalmente em depressões graves, com risco de vida, e/ou refratárias a um dos tratamentos (Tomba & Fava, 2008).…”

“…This finding has been supported in other studies, including one conducted in Amsterdam that found that 22% of patients receiving antidepressants and psychotherapy discontinued their medications by 24 weeks, compared to 40% of patients receiving only antidepressants. 44 It may be that patients with more severe depression were more likely to engage in therapy and adhere to their medications, but as noted above, we do not have measures of depression severity in this sample. In our population, we also found smaller positive effects for early adherence in patients who had previous antidepressant treatment or specialty mental healthcare.…”
