Combining FEM and neural networking in the design of optimization of traditional Montenegrin chair

Abstract: The paper presents the results of tests and analysis of strength of traditional Montenegrin chair using FEM (The Finite Element Method) according to the procedure described in the relevant European standards. Stresses in the critical points of the structure were obtained and compared with values of permissible stresses for appropriate material. The influence of design parameters of chair on distribution and intensity of the stresses was considered, so it was selected the appropriate combination of parameters t… Show more

“…The development of artificial intelligence paved the way for the advancement of engineering in general. It has found purpose in a variety of fields, such as for heating energy consumption prediction [11], predicting kinematic errors solution in the five-axis machine [12], modeling of machining parameters [13], optimization of traditional Montenegrin chair [14], etc. An example of the use of the artificial neural network (ANN) in the domain of speed control can be found in [15], where ANNs are trained to estimate speed and control the DC motor.…”

“…An alternative to the direct numerical approach is numerical optimization [23][24][25][26][27]. For example, geometry optimization can be used to control the global crush behavior of a Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) component by triggering certain failure modes and thus avoiding catastrophic collapse [25,28].…”

“…Thin-walled structures are of great importance in automotive crashworthiness design, because of their high crash energy absorption capability and their potential for light weighting. To identify the best compromise between these two requirements, numerical simulation and optimization is needed [1][2][3][4][5][6]. Due to the numerical noise and physical bifurcation in crash response, gradient based optimization algorithms cannot be used directly here.…”
