Combined percutaneous treatment of atrial septal defect and pulmonic or aortic stenosis in adult patients

Abstract: Combined atrial septal defect and pulmonic or aortic stenosis are relatively uncommon conditions in adult patients, with few reported cases of percutaneous treatment. We present two patients with secundum type atrial septal defect and concomitant pulmonic or aortic stenosis and their treatment by transcatheter techniques.

“…[5][6][7][8] Currently, it is already well known and accepted that ASD closure and balloon valvuloplasty of a nondysplastic pulmonary valve can both be accomplished with high rates of success using the transcatheter approach. [9][10][11] However, there is inadequate literature on the comparison of clinical results between surgical treatment and transcatheter correction of ASD combined with PS. The aim of the present study was, therefore, to compare the effects of these two procedures to correct ASD combined with PS on transvalvular gradient, functional status, tricuspid regurgitation (TR), and main complications in a middle unselected cohort in China.…”

“…However, the simultaneous transcatheter treatment of critical valvar PS and large ASD is rare. 1,8 The first case of combined treatment of balloon pulmonary valvuloplasty and atrial septal defect was described in 1997 by Yip et al in a 7 year old girl. 9 Recently, report on concurrent transcatheter therapy of valvar PS and secundum ASD has been increased tremendously.…”
