Combined Direct and Indirect CT Venography (Combined CTV) in Detecting Lower Extremity Deep Vein Thrombosis

Abstract: This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of combined direct and indirect CT venography (combined CTV) in the detection of lower extremity deep vein thrombosis (LEDVT).The institutional review board approved the study protocol, and patients or qualifying family members provided informed consent. A total of 96 consecutive patients undergoing combined CTV were prospectively enrolled. A combined examination with digital subtraction angiography (DSA) plus duplex ultrasonography (US) was used as the crit… Show more

“…A recent prospective study of 96 patients used an approach that combined indirect CTV with direct CTV by adding a second injection of contrast material directly into the dorsal vein of the diseased limb. Using dual-source CT and fast-pitch technique, this yielded sensitivity of 95-97% and a specificity of 100% when compared to combination US and digital subtraction angiography (90).…”

“…Duplex US, MR angiography, and CT angiography, as well as MR and indirect or combined CT venography are the primary noninvasive modalities for the diagnosis of arterial and venous thrombosis and thromboembolism in patients with COVID-19 (114,115). However, it is important to note that these disease processes may also be detected at routine contrast-enhanced CT performed in the portal venous phase, particularly when the main or large branch vessels are affected.…”
