“…In previous studies, we demonstrated that the transport of dipeptides Val‐Tyr (Hong et al ., ) and Trp‐His (Tanaka et al ., ) was inhibited by the existence of a PepT1 substrate Gly‐Sar, using an ex vivo chamber transport experiment. Also, the blood concentration of a PepT1‐transported dipeptidyl drug, captopril significantly decreased when administered simultaneously with a dipeptide Val‐Tyr (Matsui et al ., ). In such cases, the transport of dipeptide(s) mainly depends on the affinity ( K m ) to PepT1.…”

“…This may be due to the difficulties in the detection because of their low expression. The dipeptide Val-Tyr (VY) is one of the biopeptides tested in vivo that has hypotensive effect in humans (Kawasaki et al, 2000) comparable to the antihypertensive usual medications (Matsui et al, 2006); it can easily be absorbed into the human circulatory blood system (Matsui et al, 2002). Besides, small Val-Tyr peptide exerts an antiproliferative effect on vascular smooth muscle cells, which suggests the possibility of developing novel medicinal foods containing this peptide to prevent diseases involving vascular lesions, such as arteriosclerosis, insulin-resistance and vascular restenosis (Matsui et al, 2005).…”

“…The mechanism by which the acidic microclimate is generated is thought to depend on 335 hypertensive rat (SHR), in contrast with effects seen with either agent alone [61]. The authors 381 suggested this was due to competition between captopril and VY for PepT1, and cautioned 382 that subjects treated with ACE inhibitors for hypertension should avoid combined intake of 383 foods rich in small peptides.…”
