“…In another DN model, Zn had an important anti-fibrosis role, and a novel mechanism was identified that contributed to Zn protection on renal tubular epithelial cells from high glucose/hypoxiainduced epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition through activation of the PI3K/Akt/GSK-3β signaling pathway, which subsequently leads to the downregulation of the expression of HIF-1α (95). A recent study observed the combination of Zn and Se reduced the cytotoxicity and fibrosis of Ochratoxin A-induced human renal proximal tubule epithelial cells (96), while many Zn binding proteins (such as matrix metalloproteinases, snail family Zn finger 1, and ZAG) play an anti-fibrosis role in CKD (97)(98)(99).…”

“…Recent studies have reported that OTA could induce oxidative stress in a variety of different cellular and tissue models [19,[30][31][32][33][34][35]. It has been reported that OTAinduced oxidative stress [19,31,32], and Curcumin could relieve OTA-induced hepatotoxicity and nephrotoxicity.…”

“…Fibrosis is also an important manifestation of organ aging [19]. Masson staining showed that the bronchial branches of the lung in the control group were relatively normal with no alveolar wall or bronchial wall fibrosis evident, nor was obvious damage to the lung tissue structure observed.…”

“…In this respect, the effect of the combination of zinc and Se on OTA-induced fibrosis in the human renal proximal tubule epithelial (HK-2) cell line has been studied. According to data, both exerted a synergistic protective activity, which was associated with the inhibition of the ROS-dependent autophagy in these cells [284]. Moreover, the SeMet protective effect on the cytotoxicity and pyroptosis of Madin-Darby canine kidney (MDCK) cells induced by OTA has been demonstrated.…”
