Combination of oral methotrexate and oral mini‐pulse dexamethasone vs either agent alone in vitiligo treatment with follow up by dermoscope

Abstract: This study aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of oral methotrexate (MTX) and oral mini‐pulse (OMP) dexamethasone alone and in combination in the treatment of vitiligo. A total of 42 patients with vitiligo were included in the study. The patients were treated for three months and randomly assigned into three groups including 14 patients each: group A received oral MTX, group B received OMP dexamethasone, and group C received a combination of both. “…New lesions developed during treatment in 23% of patients in the MTX group and 28% of patients in the corticosteroid group (92). ElGhareeb et al (93) performed a study with 42 patients to assess the efficacy and safety of oral MTX and oral mini pulse of dexamethasone, used either alone or in combination. Patients were randomly divided into three groups.…”

“…Repigmentation is always the first purpose of treatment, and the next step is to stabilize the disease, stop melanocyte dysfunction, and provide psychological care and good quality of life, especially for patients with skin of color. 14,15 Treating this disease remains one of the most difficult therapeutic challenges among dermatologists; however, there are many treatment options, such as medications, phototherapy, and surgical grafts. 16 Interleukin-15 (IL-15) is a potent cytokine in the pathogenesis of immune-mediated diseases, especially those associated with CD8+ T-cell malfunction, such as psoriasis, alopecia areata, inflammatory bowel disease, and vitiligo.…”
