Colourimetric analysis of some powdered medicinal herbs from Ogbomoso, Nigeria

Abstract: Background: The organoleptic evaluation of herbal drugs is as old as science, but the authentication of herbs on the basis of their fluorescence characteristics is difficult and sometimes impracticable because humans are limited by their sense of colour recognition.Aim: This article undertakes a computer-aided examination of some powdered herbal materials with a view to characterising them calourimetrically, thus providing a reliable organoleptic clue for their authentication, against possible misidentificatio… Show more

“…This study suggests clues for the standardization of macroscopic evaluation of some Meliaceae plant that might present specific criteria. Studies including more samples collected from different areas could confirm the specificity of some plant powders for authentication or discrimination as discussed by Adepoju Ogunkunle et al [37] .…”

“…However, this must be considered an indicative estimation as the real migrated cells have not been counted since it was not possible to count the number of single migrated cells as most likely the cells were aggregated, but this software and others similar for colorimetric analysis are used in other scientific studies. 17 From the histogram in Fig. 3, it can be seen that the use of honey alone already decreased the migratory capacity of CSC-like cells, respectively, by 1.23 (with MH 50 mg mL −1 ) and 1.30 times (with MH 75 mg mL −1 ) ( p < 0.05) compared to the CTL.…”
