Colossal Chromatic Shift in the Ba2Ca2B4O10:Ce3+ Phosphor

Abstract: Developing high-color-quality white light-emitting diodes (LEDs) is crucial for energy-efficient light bulbs and modern flat panel displays. Creating the luminescent phosphors that enable these advanced lighting technologies requires stable photoluminescence under varying temperatures. In this study, we examine Ba2Ca2B4O10 substituted with Ce3+, which emits an efficient blue-cyan light (λem ≈ 455 nm and a quantum yield of 74%) that is required for high color rendering lighting. Synchrotron powder X-ray diffrac… Show more

“…Indeed, there are some reports on white light emission by a multiemission of the Eu 2+ activator, for example, Ba 3 P 5 N 10 Br:Eu 2+10 and Sr 5 (PO 4 ) 3−x (BO 3 ) x Cl:Eu 2+ (x = 0.5). 11 Ce 3+ is another representative activator with 4f−5d transition; thus, Ce-activated phosphors giving multiemission, such as Ca 3 (SiO 3 ) 3 :Ce 3+ , 12 Ba 2 CaB 2 Si 4 O 14 :Ce 3+ , 13 Ba 2 Ca 2 B 4 O 10 :Ce 3+ , 7 and Sr 2 Si 5 N 8 :Ce 3+ , 14,15 are also reported. However, white light emission has not been achieved by Ce 3+activated phosphors so far.…”
