“…It has been reported that ACNs were used as a tracer to increase the detected number of lymph nodes in the systematic nodal dissection tissue during video-assisted thoracic surgery for non-small-cell lung cancer [21]. Cai et al found that the mean number of detected lymph nodes per patient in CRC was significantly higher in the ACN group than in the control group [22]. In the present work, the quantity of harvested lymph nodes was significantly higher in the ACN group than in the control group, and the majority of retrieved lymph nodes were coloured black, demonstrating the outstanding tracing feature of ACN, helping the identification of lymph nodes from surrounding fat tissue.…”

“…However, some drawbacks, such as insufficient stability, short duration, and parathyroid staining, limit their usage in the surgery of PTC . Recently, activated carbon has been widely applied as a lymph node tracer in breast and gastric cancers . With the development of nanotechnology, carbon nanoparticles have been used as a novel lymph node tracer in malignant tumors since its approval in 2007 .…”

“…[10,11] This product is a stable suspension of carbon pellets of 150 nm in diameter. The diameter of carbon pellets is greater than the capillary endothelial cell gap (approximately 20–50 nm) and smaller than the lymphatic capillary endothelial cell gap (approximately 120–500 nm).…”
