The study aims to assess the influence of hydrothermal aging on gradient zirconia's microstructure and color stability. Materials and methods: Ten discs were constructed from gradient zirconia blanks (3Y-TZP-5Y-TZP) using CAD\CAM technology. Hydrothermal aging was done in an autoclave. Color parameters (a*, b*, L*) for each disc was measured using a spectrophotometer. In order to investigate the zirconia specimens' crystalline structure, X-ray diffraction (XRD) was performed. Color stability and microstructural changes were examined before and after the aging process. Results: Following hydrothermal aging, a statistically significant decrease in the mean (L*) value was found. However, following hydrothermal aging, a statistically significant increase in the mean (a*) and (b*) values was reported. Regarding the microstructure, hydrothermal aging did not result in any significant changes. Conclusion: Artificial aging has led to color changes in gradient zirconia that were in the clinical acceptability range but has no impact on the microstructure of gradient zirconia.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of accelerated artificial aging using weathering process on color stability of computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) materials. Materials and Methods: Four CAD-CAM materials were tested; Nano hybrid CAD-CAM composite (Tetric CAD “TC”) , hybrid ceramic (Vita Enamic “VE”), Advanced Lithium disilicate (CEREC Tessera “CT”) and Lithium disilicate (IPS e.max CAD “EM”) . Each group material contains nine samples (n=9). Color measurements of the four materials were assessed before and after accelerated aging in weathering machine for 300 hours using a spectrophotometer based on CIE L*a*b* relative to the standard illumination D65. Color difference was obtained using the formula ∆E=[(∆L*)2+(∆a*) 2+(∆b*) 2]½. Statistical analysis was done using one - way ANOVA and Kruskal-Wallis tests (a=0.05). Results: There was a statistically significant difference between ΔE of CAD-CAM materials. TC showed the highest mean ∆E (4.29) while there was no statistical significance difference between ∆E of VE, CT and EM (3.02, 3 and 2.94 respectively). Conclusions: Artificial accelerated aging caused clinically unacceptable color changes in TC, while it caused perceptible but clinically acceptable color changes in VE, CT, and EM. Chemical composition could influence the change in color of the material. Clinical Significance: When color stability with weathering process is considered; advanced lithium disilicate, lithium disilicate and hybrid ceramic with high color stability may be a better choice than nano hybrid CAD/CAM composite, especially when being used in the anterior esthetic zone.

Background: Ultra-Opaque resin cement is a promising material introduced in the market aiming to mask discolored substrates such as tooth, titanium implants, and metallic posts. Aim: To evaluate the masking ability of the ultra-opaque resin cement to different discolored substrates.Material and Methods: Sixty ceramic disks were fabricated with three ceramic materials (Lithium disilicate, zirconia reinforced lithium disilicate, and ultra-translucent zirconia) (N=20 each).Ceramic disks were cemented to Ni-Cr disks using two adhesive resin cements (Conventional resin cement and ultra-opaque resin cement). Color measurements were done before and after cementation and after thermocycling using spectrophotometer based on CIE L* a* b* relative to the standard illumination D65.Color difference was obtained by calculating the difference in color measurements using the formula ∆E=[(∆L*)2 +(∆a*)2 +(∆b*)2] ½. Results: After thermocycling, ultra-opaque cement showed lower mean ∆E compared to conventional resin cement.Conventional resin cement showed a lower mean ∆E than the ultra-opaque one with the Katana group, while there was no statistically significant difference among other groups. Conclusions: whatever type of ceramic used, ultra-opaque resin cement has a higher masking ability than conventional resin cement.
