Color Stability of Resin Cements Exposed to Aging

Abstract: SUMMARY The aim of this study was to evaluate the color stability of light-cured and dual-cured resin cements after artificial accelerated aging. Ten specimens (6-mm diameter and 2-mm thickness) for each of five resin cements were prepared: GC (dual-cured cement, GCem), Vb (light-cured cement, Variolink II only the base), Vbc (dual-cured cement, Variolink II base with catalyst), VV (light-cured cement, Variolink Veneer), and FR (flowable resin composite, light cured). The samples were polished a… Show more

“…The CIELAB system is composed of three axes: L* (lightness from 0 = black up to 100 = white), a* (from a = green up to +a = red), and b* (from b = blue up to +b = yellow). The following equation calculated the color change (∆E) 12,14 :…”

“…The staining of resin cement may be caused by intrinsic (filler content, material composition, or type of activation) and extrinsic factors (sorption of media, stains caused by beverages, and food components). 12 Resin materials composed with smaller fillers showed improved color stability and gloss retention. 13 Additionally, from a clinical perspective, light-cured resin cements with a lower concentration of tertiary amine display greater long-term color stability.…”

“…Increased patient demands for esthetic restorations makes selection of the treatment of choice even more challenging. Application of ceramic veneers is increasing due to their ideal esthetics [14,15]. The final color of ceramic veneers depends on the type of ceramic used, the veneering thickness, degree of translucency and opacity of ceramic, the cement color and color of the underlying tooth structure.…”

“…In this study, the samples were subjected to AAA in QUV/spray according to the ASTMG 154-06 standards. According to the ASTM recommended protocol, 384 h of AAA corresponds to 1 year of clinical service [14,19]. According to previous studies, UV light and high temperature in dry environment cause intense changes in materials.…”
