Color sextet vector bosons and same-sign top quark pairs at the LHC

Abstract: We investigate the production of beyond-the-standard-model color-sextet vector bosons at the Large Hadron Collider and their decay into a pair of same-sign top quarks. We demonstrate that the energy of the charged lepton from the top quark semi-leptonic decay serves as a good measure of the top-quark polarization, which, in turn determines the quantum numbers of the boson and distinguishes vector bosons from scalars.

“…The vector states, on the other hand, are more exotic in terms of connections with an underlying model. There has been previous interest in the resonant production of diquark scalars and vectors at the LHC [43][44][45][46].…”

“…Examples include two Higgs doublet models [1][2][3], left-right extensions of the SM [4], models with a color sextet or color octet [5][6][7][8][9][10], and models with composite particles . NP that couples strongly to top quarks might manifest itself as heavy resonant states that can be produced at the LHC.…”

“…The fact that LHC being a protonproton collider will have valence quarks in much abundance compared to the anti-quarks, helps in producing the diquark as a resonance through qq fusion. A lot of studies carried out at LO exist in the literature for such diquarks and their resonant effects in the dijet signal [31][32][33][34][35][36][37][38], pair production of top quarks [39][40][41][42] and single top quark production at the LHC [43,44]. The one-loop NLO correction for scalar diquark production was considered in ref.…”
