Color-octet quarkonia production

Abstract: Gluon fragmentation represents the dominant source of high energy prompt quarkonia at hadron colliders. Fragmentation approximations break down, however, when a quarkonium's transverse momentum becomes comparable to its mass. In this paper, we identify a large class of color-octet diagrams that mediate quarkonia production at all energies and reduce to the dominant set of gluon fragmentation graphs in the high $p_\perp$ limit. They contribute to quarkonia differential cross sections at the same order as color-… Show more

“…The corresponding differential cross sections can be found in [8,9]. We conclude from our simulation that gluon-gluon fusion actually stands for the dominant process as expected, gluon-quark scattering contributes appreciably, whereas quark-antiquark scattering represents a tiny contribution.…”

“…Higher Fock components in the wavefunction have additional partons and are suppressed by positive powers of the small parameter v. In our calculation we will take into account both color-singlet and color-octet QQ contributions in the production. The NRQCD formalism has been used to calculate differential yields of heavy mesons as a function of their transverse momentum, p T , in p+p collisions [12][13][14][15][16]. The picture of the production process in NRQCD is as follows.…”

“…Using approximate values for the NRQCD matrix elements satisfying the restrictions imposed by heavy quark symmetry and compatible with the existing extractions [69,71, 721 the behavior of differential cross section can be studied. The energy dependence of the total cross section, taken at various representative incident neutrino energies, is shown in Table 3.1.…”
