Color changes of esthetic elastomeric ligatures evaluated with the Commission Internationale d'Éclairage color system

Abstract: Objective:The aim of this study was to assess and compare color changes in esthetic elastomeric ligatures after 30 days in situ using a spectrophotometer and the Commission Internationale d’Éclairage (CIE) color system.Materials and Methods:The sample comprised elastomeric ligatures of four color groups (n = 42): blue pearl (BP); colorless; white pearl (WP); and pearl. Four samples from each group were allocated in for quadrants of seven patients in a split-mouth model. Color measurements were performed with a… Show more

“…Regarding the colour variation results, evidence leads to the understanding that all ligatures, regardless of the toothpaste used, experienced some degree of colour change considered clinically unacceptable (E > 3.3), becoming yellow and dull, having its immediate replacement considered advisable. This information is pretty aligned with previous literature findings 20–23 …”

“…This information is pretty aligned with previous literature findings. [20][21][22][23] The RMOP ligature showed the highest colour stability, and GACP, the lowest, among all ligatures evaluated in this study. However, it cannot be said that polyurethane ligatures are better or worse in colour stability than silicone ones.…”

“…Therefore, further studies on pigmentation of elastomeric ligatures might be helpful in contributing to the improvement Miranda AGF, Godoi APT, Menezes CC, Vedovello Filho M, Venezian GC The influence of elastomeric ligatures pigmentation on smile aesthetics during orthodontic treatment of these materials. 3 In addition, this is relevant for professionals, as this will allow them to prioritize the use of materials with better characteristics and enable them to offer their patients guidance with regard to their diets. In this context, the present study aimed to assess the influence of aesthetic ligatures of five commercial brands on smile aesthetics during orthodontic treatment, from the perception of students and specialists.…”

“…The increasing aesthetics concern has become an important issue into fixed orthodontic appliances, and has established it as a goal for orthodontists to achieve, 1 especially during orthodontic treatment of adult patients. 2 , 3 To meet the aesthetic expectations of more demanding patients during orthodontic treatment, aesthetic orthodontic appliances have been designed with the aim of filling this gap in the specialty. 4 When offering these options to patients, orthodontists should use not only ceramic brackets, but accessories that also benefit this type of appliance, such as aesthetic elastic archwires and ligatures.…”
