Colonization strategy of the endophytic plant growth-promoting strains ofPseudomonas fluorescensandKlebsiella oxytocaon the seeds, seedlings and roots of the epiphytic orchid,Dendrobium nobileLindl

Abstract: This study enlarges our knowledge on orchid-microbial interactions, and provides new features on application of the nonorchid PGPR in orchid seed germination and conservation.

“…In addition, K. oxytoca have the capacity for nitrogen fixation and the conversion of N 2 to ammonia (Temme, Zhao, & Voigt, 2012). It is known that nitrogen fixation can influence plant growth (Pavlova et al, 2017) and insect longevity (Behar et al 2008). Another strain of K. oxytoca isolated from the gut of Poekilocerus pictus was shown to degrade oleic acid to produce the smaller-chain fatty acids (Kingsly, Jothinathan, & Thilagaraj, 2017).…”

“…GFP has been widely used for studying plant-microbe interactions [ 37 , 38 , 61 , 62 ]. Pseudomonas , a non-endospore-forming bacterium, could colonize velamen and core parenchyma of Dendrobium nobile [ 63 ]. P. polymyxa WLY78 (azotobacter) could colonize wheat, maize, and cucumber [ 38 ], though some PGPR such as Pseudomonas used in commercial bio-fertilizers, the utilization of bio-fertilizers are still a small fraction in the agriculture industry.…”

“…Klebsiella oxytoca (formerly known as Klebsiella pneumoniae or Aerobacter aerogenes ) is a free-living bacterium isolated from soils [ 3 ], plants and animals, including humans. K. oxytoca strains can be either pathogenic [ 5 ] or beneficial having roles, for instance, as plant growth promoters [ 3 , 6 ] and as valuable biochemical-compound producers [ 7 ].…”
