Colonization Dynamics of LBK Farmers in Europe under Geostatistics Test

Abstract: Exploiting a database developed during a previous research project, this study uses factor analyses, GIS techniques and basic geostatistics to evaluate in detail the agro-ecological determinants of the first Neolithic diffusion in continental temperate Europe (the Linearbandkeramik or LBK), as well as its underlying settlement dynamics around half a millennium (5550–4925 BCE). More than 6600 LBK site locations, spread from Moldavia to Normandy, are initially assessed for their informative coherence and ability… Show more

“…However, in the records processed while completing the database, researchers mention highquality Turonian flint as the primary raw material used for knapping, although often they in correctly called it 'Volhynian'. Artefacts made of it do minate in the chipped stone assemblages of the sites in the Eastern Galicia and Volhynia (Okhrimenko 2001.52;Telizhenko, Silaiev 2022.18-19;Telizhenko 2015.66;Konoplia 1999.131;2008.206;2009.101; Observations during the current work and the results of thorough research on data from Central Europe (Brigand et al 2022) revealed that LBK agriculture quite easily adapted to various natural conditions. The refore, the reason for the absence of LBK sites in the vast fertile loess plain between Volhynia and the Dniester is most likely not related to subsistence strategies.…”

deal with only 45 sites on the territory of Ukraine. The authors noted that the easternmost part of the LBK area has not been studied enough, and most publications written in Cyrillic are not available to European re sear chers (Brigand et al 2022). Furthermore, even the available data may not be reliable due to the outdated approaches and errors (Haskevych 2021.21-22).
