Show more

“…In spite of the low indices for natural infection with trypanosomes for this species in DF, compared with studies in different regions of Brazil [12][13][14][15][16][17] , it is important to stress that some of the triatomines were found colonizing intradomicile and feeding on human blood according to precipitin tests (unpublished data), thus evidencing the risk of human infection. Our results also show that the spatial occurrence of triatomine species is different in the 20 administrative regions studied in DF, with the highest number of records and species richness observed in Planaltina, a predominantly rural region with the highest frequency of T. sordida.…”

“…For example, in some situations, 13,[34][35][36] rodents and opossums show long-lasting parasitemia 37,38 and seem to play a role analogous to that of dogs in northwest Argentina. Their removal is expected to bring a decrease in bug infection rates.…”

“…Aragão 46 showed that humidity followed by lower temperatures produces a greater wet surface permanence in residences, making such habitats unsuitable for these triatomines. However, the presence of P. megistus in artifi cial habitats in the States of Santa Catarina and Paraná demonstrates the species' ability to colonize this environment in the southern region of the country, even at a low intensity 50,51 . In the State of Rio Grande do Sul, the fi rst domiciliary species focus was described by Di Primio 30 in the municipality of Viamão.…”
