Colon capsule endoscopy: toward the future

Abstract: Colon capsule endoscopy is a wireless and minimally invasive technique for visualization of the whole colon. With recent improvements of technical features in second-generation systems, a more important role for colon capsule endoscopy is rapidly emerging. Although several limitations and drawbacks are yet to be resolved, its usefulness as a tool for colorectal cancer screening and monitoring disease activity in inflammatory bowel diseases has become more apparent with increased use. Further investigations, in… Show more

“…Current developments include the detection of volatile metabolites in breath, 88 use of liquid biopsies, 89 the potential role of changes in the microbiome 90 and colon capsule endoscopy. 91 These emerging technologies could be combined with morpho-molecular parameters if not for screening, then for risk stratification in early-stage disease and predicting disease recurrence. 92 93 …”

“…Colon capsule endoscopy is a wireless and simply invasive method for direct visualization of the whole colon and small intestine, screening and monitoring disease activity in inflammatory bowel diseases [39]. The diagnosis of IBD using a panenteric video capsule endoscope that visualizes both the small and large bowels is more higher than ileocolonoscopy in patients with active disease [40].…”

“…Aneurysm is also often associated with HP; however, a causal relationship between them has not been established yet [ [4] , [5] , [6] , [7] ]. However, in some rare cases, HP can be merged with pancreatic tumors and even with pancreatic cystic neoplasms [ 8 , 9 ]. According to some early reports, HP can even arise from trauma iatrogenic causes [ [10] , [11] , [12] ].…”

“…In many reports, patients with HP have a history of pancreatic tumors (including pancreatic carcinoma, serous cystic neoplasm, mucinous cystic neoplasm, and neuroendocrine tumors) [ 9 , 15 , 21 ]. In some patients with malignant tumors, Shinzeki et al reported that the cancer cells in mucinous cystadenoma did not infiltrate the parenchyma or the pancreatic duct [ 29 ].…”
