Colloidal Synthesis of NbS2 Nanosheets: From Large-Area Ultrathin Nanosheets to Hierarchical Structures

Abstract: Layered NbS 2 , a member of group-V transition metal dichalcogenides, was synthesized via a colloidal synthesis method and employed as a negative material for a supercapacitor. The morphologies of NbS 2 can be tuned from ultrathin nanosheets to hierarchical structures through dynamics controls based on growth mechanisms. Electrochemical energy storage measurements present that the ultrathin NbS 2 electrode exhibits the highest rate capability due to having the largest electrochemical surface area and its effic… Show more

“…Additionally, the pattern showed two low-intensity peaks at 31.04 and 55.33°, which could be indexed to the (100) and (110) reflections, respectively. The reduced intensity of these reflections (as compared to the bulk) is consistent with other recent studies of exfoliated NbS 2 . Attempts to obtain a diffraction pattern for the functionalized NbS 2 nanosheets were unsuccessful due to the low signal-to-noise ratio.…”

“…The piano stool arrangement of the carbonyl ligands in CpMn(CO) 3 and the rapid rotation of the Cp ring provide a local C 3v symmetry to the Mn complex and result in A 1 + E stretching modes for the carbonyl groups. The A 1 and E stretching frequencies (2019.1 and 1927.3 cm –1 , respectively) in the FTIR spectra were assigned based on literature reports, as shown in Figure . , Previous literature reports indicate that typically only one carbonyl group photodissociates. This process leaves a single open coordination site on the Mn atom for coordination with the electron-rich sulfur atoms in NbS 2 . Following the irradiation of CpMn(CO) 3 in the presence of exfoliated NbS 2 , the surface-bound NbS 2 –MnCp(CO) 2 complex is expected to have a local symmetry of C s , and the C–O stretching modes should transform as A′ + A″.…”

“…But still, there is a lot of work needed on Nb-based electrode material for SCs. 42 Niobium (Nb)-based materials have incredible potential for use in supercapacitors (SCs). However, the conductivity of niobium may be successfully increased by merging Nb with two metals.…”

“…In 2017, Zhang et al developed a series of NbS 2 nanostructures with controllable morphology by adjusting the content of oleylamine and oleic acid in the organic reaction system, using a high-temperature colloidal synthesis method. [36,37] However, this method poses a significant safety risk because of the high reaction temperature and complex operation processes especially the operation of organic solvents at high temperatures. Therefore, establishing a simple preparation process with relatively mild reaction temperatures and high yields is of substantial importance in tailoring the structures and properties of NbS 2 nanomaterials.…”
