Colloidal Fe-Doped Indium Oxide Nanoparticles: Facile Synthesis, Structural, and Magnetic Properties

Abstract: We report the preparation, characterization, and magnetic properties of highly crystalline colloidal Fe-doped indium oxide nanoparticles. The nanoparticles have been prepared in high yields by simple one-pot thermal decomposition of indium and iron precursors in hexadecylamine and can be easily dispersed in solvents like chloroform and toluene. Detailed X-ray diffraction, microstructure, and Raman studies reveal that the nanoparticles are single phase cubic bixbyite structure without any parasitic secondary ph… Show more

“…Raman scattering is an effective tool for measuring and comprehending the catalytic activity of ceria and for investigating doping effects on doped nanomaterials as the incor-poration of dopant leads to shifts of the lattice Raman vibrational peak positions. [21,[28][29][30] Figure 2 illustrates the contrastive Raman spectra of the pure, undoped CeO 2 sample ( -1 is related to the first order F 2g Raman active mode of the CeO 2 fluorite structure, which can be regarded as a symmetric breathing mode of the oxygen ions around each Ce 4+ cation. [31,32] The absence of the Mn-O characteristic peak (in the range 620-660 cm -1 ) is indicative of the formation of solid solutions as indicated by the XRD results.…”

“…Recently there have been a number of papers reporting ferromagnetism in In 2 O 3 films [9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16] doped with transition metal ions. In many oxides there has been a debate over the question of whether the magnetism is due to intrinsic properties of the host matrix containing transition metal ions on the cation sites or whether the magnetism is due to impurity phases.…”

“…6 To endow In 2 O 3 with better or special properties, they are often doped by transition metal (TM) ions in order to introduce ferromagnetisms to non-magnetic In 2 O 3 , which is called as diluted magnetic semiconductor (DMSs) and potentially applied in transparent spintronic devices. [7][8][9][10][11][12][13] For example, Farvid et al 14 prepared paramagnetic Cr doped C-In 2 O 3 nanocrystals while Singhal et al 15 synthesized ferromagnetic Fe doped C-In 2 O 3 nanoparticles. In addition, Philip et al 7 could control ferromagnetisms of Cr doped C-In 2 O 3 films by tuning carrier density.…”

“…Some attributed their ferromagnetisms to other secondary impurities while the others claimed the ferromagnetisms were the intrinsic characters of their materials. [14][15][16][17][18][19] The structural studies of all samples were done by X-ray diffraction (XRD, Rigaku-D/max 2550VX diffractometer) and selected-area electron diffraction (SAED). High-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM, JEM-200CX) were further inspected for their fine structures and energy dispersion X-ray spectrometry (EDS) were used to determine their chemical compositions.…”
