“…Liposomes are microscopic structures consisting of one or more concentric spheres of lipid bilayers enclosing aqueous compartments. Liposomes have been successfully used to encapsulate lipophilic and hydrophilic compounds (Eroglu et al, 2014;Johal et al, 2014;Ali et al, 2014;El-badry et al, 2014;Fang et al, 2015). In the dermatological field, liposomes were used initially only because of their moisturizing and restoring action.…”

“…An ocular formulation should release the drug by bypassing the protective barriers of the eye without damaging the tissues (Ali et al, 2016). Ocular drug delivery systems generally have low bioavailability, limited absorption in the intraocular area due to blinking reflex, less eye capacity, nasolacrimal drainage, and the corneal and conjunctival epithelial barriers which ultimately reduces the retention time of drug molecules in the eyes (Kaur et al, 2012).…”

“…However, ERT is not available for all MPS, and it is not curative. Although ERT can be very effective at treating the systemic disease, classical lysosomal enzymes are not capable of crossing the BBB or the BRB in the eye [56,61].…”
