Collisions among elongated settling particles: The twofold role of turbulence

Abstract: We study the collision rates of settling spheres and elongated spheroids in homogeneous, isotropic turbulence by means of direct numerical simulations aiming to understand microscale-particle encounters in oceans and lakes.
