“…EMPD was noninvasive in most cases, with the sole invasive EMPD case associated with metastasis to other organs. This report by Mae et al 8 was also the only collision of EMPD and MM in both the primary and metastatic sites (inguinal lymph node). Only 2 patients had a history of cancer.…”

“…In cases with complete clinical descriptions of skin lesions, MM corresponded to areas that were darkly pigmented while EMPD corresponded to erythematous areas beyond normal-appearing skin. [7][8][9] Histologic features useful in identifying the pagetoid cells of EMPD from MM relied on distinct cytoplasmic features such as presence of blue mucin, vacuolization, and clear cytoplasm without melanin. IHC stains ultimately provided confirmation of the presence of 2 tumors.…”

“…A relationship between EMPD and underlying in situ or invasive neoplasms is well known [1, 2]. However, only a few cases of cutaneous malignant melanoma (MM) and EMPD have been reported to date: as collision tumors [3-5], at separate sites simultaneously with primary MM [6], or with relapsing MM [7]. In this case report 2 cases of such double cancers are presented; one patient with a collision tumor, the other at separate sites.…”
