Terranes accreted to the southeastern margin of the Siberian Craton record an important early Paleozoic tectono-thermal event (known as the Baikal orogenic cycle) in the evolution of the Central Asian Orogenic Belt (CAOB). However, the precise metamorphic conditions and relative timing of this event and its linkage to the wider CAOB remain far poorly constrained. The best exposed of these terranes is the Olkhon Terrane on the western bank of Lake Baikal.Here, late Neoproterozoic through early Paleozoic island arc and back-arc assemblages were metamorphosed to form a thin granulite facies belt cropping out adjacent to the Siberian Craton and lower temperature/pressure paragneiss and migmatite towards the southeast. Phase equilibria modelling suggests that the granulite facies belt preserved moderate pressure (c. 0.80 GPa) and high temperature (up to 900 C) conditions while the paragneiss and migmatites in the southeast have peak metamorphic conditions around 700-770 C at 0.60-0.80 GPa. New geochronological data (zircon U-Pb in granulite and monazite U-Pb in paragneiss/migmatite) in combination with phase equilibria modelling and petro-structural analysis suggest that the tectono-metamorphic evolution of the Olkhon Terrane was controlled by a long-lasting (535-450 Ma) and pervasive thermal anomaly. Discrete maxima in the zircon and monazite U-Pb ages at c. 535, 500, and 450 Ma are linked to different stages of a semi-continuous high-temperature metamorphic evolution. Based on existing geological data of the region, a generalized geodynamic model for the Baikal orogenic cycle involving switching between compressional and extensional regimes during the early Paleozoic accretion of 'exotic' CAOB-derived material to the southern margin of Siberia is proposed. The tectono-metamorphic evolution of the Olkhon Terrane may represent a worldclass example of polyphase shortening of a long-lived hot intra-continental arc-back-arc system during its collision with cratonic blocks.

Linear or lens-like carbonate (marble) and carbonate-silicate bodies among gabbro and amphibolites within the Krestovsky subterrane of the Olkhon composite terrane (West Baikal Area) are identified as dikes. The dikes commonly dip almost vertically, range in thickness from 20 cm to a few meters, and are up to 100 m long. The Olkhon marble dikes quite often coexist with dolerite dikes and/or granite veins and show signatures of emplacement synchronously with the igneous bodies. The marble dikes differ from mantle carbonatites in mineralogy and chemistry and thus may be derived from sedimentary carbonate rocks molten during collisional events.The origin of the Olkhon carbonate and carbonate-silicate dikes may be explained with two possible geodynamic scenarios. They may be derived either from Neoproterozoic carbonate sediments upon the Early Precambrian basement of a cratonic block which was involved in collisional events, or from abundant carbonate sedimentary material in an island-arc terrane. Large-scale melting of silicate and carbonate rocks was maintained by heat released from mantle mafic magma intruding into the lower crust. The batches of both crustal (carbonate and granitic) and mantle (mafic) melts intruded late during the collision in a strike-slip tectonic setting.

A dose distribution map can be created using geographic information system (GIS) methods from sensor data that do not provide image information in a classical way. The results of discrete radiation measurements can be properly represented in a uniform raster above the surface. If the radiation measured at each site does not show a jump-like change, a dose distribution map can be prepared by interpolating the measured values. The coordinates of the measuring points can be used to calibrate the map. The calibrated and georeferenced map is suitable for locating hidden or lost radiation sources or for mapping active debris scattered during a possible reactor accident. The advantage of the developed method is the measurement can be performed with a small multicopter, cost-effectively, even without human intervention. The flight time of small multicopters is very limited, so it is especially important to increase the efficiency of the measurement. During the experiments, a practical comparison of several methods was made with regard to the measurement procedure. Similarly, based on the measurement experience, the detector system was further developed and tested in three main steps. A system was developed with a detector system with a total weight of 500 g, including a battery capable of operating the detector for at least 120 min. The device is capable of detecting an average of 30 events/min at of 0.01 μSv/h background radiation. Experiments have shown that the system is able to significantly detect a source with an activity of 300 μSv/h by scanning above 10 m ground level.
