Collins azimuthal asymmetries of hadron production inside jets

Abstract: We investigate the Collins azimuthal asymmetry of hadrons produced inside jets in transversely polarized proton-proton collisions. Recently, the quark transversity distributions and the Collins fragmentation functions have been extracted within global analyses from data of the processes semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering and electron-positron annihilation. We calculate the Collins azimuthal asymmetry for charged pions inside jets using these extractions for RHIC kinematics at center-of-mass energies of 2… Show more

“…The Kang-ProkudinRinger-Yuan (KPRY) and KPRY-NLL predictions are based upon Ref. [78]. The KPRY-NLL curves assume TMD evolution up to next-to-leading log, while the KPRY curves assume no TMD evolution.…”

“…Tagging the parton flavor through identified hadrons in jets has recently become an important tool, especially in pp collisions, to study PDFs and fragmentation functions. (For theoretical details and first experimental results see Reference [39,40] and [41,42]). In the following, we apply this method to tag the parton flavor content of the photon at an EIC.…”

“…The STAR Collins asymmetries [15,16] have been compared with model calculations [24,25] based upon SIDIS and e + e data. The comparisons for the p s = 500 GeV data [15] are shown in the right-hand panel of Fig.…”

“…Illuminating Nucleon Structure at STAR J. L. Drachenberg [20] (left and center) and charged-pion Collins [15] (right) asymmetries at p s = 500 GeV in comparison to model calculations based on SIDIS [23,24,25]. Weak boson asymmetries show a strong preference for models that assume the sign-change [7], provided suppression due to TMD evolution is small.…”
