The ongoing economic development and prosperity have led not only to the exhaustion of the planet’s natural resources but also to numerous environmental problems. To address these problems, it is necessary that more individuals adopt energy saving practices while promoting alternative energy sources. In other words, future generations ought to adopt behaviors that will involve the sustainable management of energy. To that end, sustainable education can create citizens who not only have knowledge and awareness about the environment and the severe environmental issues but are also willing to take action to address these issues. Hence, the aim of the present study is to investigate the environmental attitudes and behaviors among primary school students and their parents in the municipality of Orestiada, in Greece. To achieve this objective, a structured questionnaire with closed-ended questions was used. Results showed that both students and parents had adequate levels of environmental awareness while their beliefs were translated into actual behaviors as they had adopted, to a significant extent, energy saving habits and practices.

Objetivo: descrever a experiência de uma estratégia de aprendizagem em saúde ambiental por meio de fotografias. Metodologia: relato de experiência sobre metodologia de ensino aplicada na disciplina Saúde coletiva e ambiental, do curso de graduação em Enfermagem de uma Universidade Federal da região Norte do Brasil, realizada em 2014, dividido em três etapas. Resultados: a estratégia potencializou o diálogo com os estudantes sobre saúde ambiental, pois favoreceu aproximação real com o cotidiano bem como reflexão sobre o processo saúde-doença, discussão sobre os determinantes sociais e identificação do papel do enfermeiro nesse campo de atuação. Uma dificuldade superada foi a integralização das questões relativa ao meio ambiente e sustentabilidade e a saúde da comunidade. Conclusão: A formação de enfermeiros críticos acerca da saúde ambiental e sua relação intrínseca com a saúde precisa de ações criativas. Os estudantes verificaram ser imprescindível a atuação da enfermagem como moderadora e provedora de ações de saúde ambiental em prol da comunidade.Descritores: Educação em Enfermagem. Do German Student Biology Teachers Intend to Eat Sustainably? Extending the Theory of Planned Behavior with Nature Relatedness and Environmental Concern

Non-sustainable food choices are responsible for many global challenges, such as biodiversity loss and climate change. To achieve a transformation toward sustainable nutrition, it is crucial to implement education for sustainable development (ESD), with the key issue “nutrition”, in schools and teacher training. Biology teachers are crucial for promoting ESD competences. Thus, the main aim of the study is to investigate the social and environmental psychological factors that may affect the intention of student biology teachers to eat sustainably as an integral part of their action competence needed for teaching this topic effectively. We conducted a paper-pencil questionnaire (N = 270, Mage = 22.9; SD = 2.8) based on the theory of planned behavior (TPB) and expanded the model by integrating environmental concern and nature relatedness. A path model is reported to show the relationships between the variables. The results show that the extended TPB model is suitable for predicting the intention to eat sustainably. Nature relatedness and altruistic concern positively predict attitudes and the intention to eat sustainably. This study suggests further research on the importance of (student) teachers’ nutritional behavior, as a possible determinant of the intention to teach this topic in their future school career.
