College‐level Instruction: Derived Relations and Programmed Instruction

Abstract: Recent research has demonstrated the effectiveness of programmed instruction that integrates derived relations to teach college-level academic material. This method has been demonstrated to be effective and economical in the teaching of complex mathematics and biology concepts. Although this approach may have potential applications with other domains of college learning, more studies are needed to evaluate important technological variables. Studies that employ programmed instruction are discussed in relation t… Show more

“…Similarly, and perhaps more relevant to inter-teaching, Binder (1996) distinguished different trial types in terms of the learning channels used such as Hear/write, Hear-think/say, and Read-think/write, which perhaps might be conceptualized as equivalence-like relationships within and between different stimulus classes (cf. Fienup, Hamelin, Reyes-Giordano, & Falcomata, 2011). Thus, future work on Inter-teaching might usefully consider design of instructional materials in terms of the number and quality of teaching trials.…”

“…The breeding barriers in interspecific in interspecific hybrids of tomato have been overcome using two given methods [16]. Firstly, hybrid embryos have been rescued by embryo culture [17], ovule culture [18] and plant regeneration from ovule-derived callus [19]. Secondly, normal seed development has been obtained by adjusting the environment and crossing factors during the crossing period and fruit growth [20], pollination with gamma-ray irradiated pollen grains [21], use of polyploidy [22], bridge crossing [23] and the selection of self-compatible species [24].…”

“…Equivalence-based instruction (EBI) incorporates the principles of stimulus equivalence 1 (Rehfeldt, 2011;Sidman, 1994) within instructional design to teach academically relevant concepts (Fienup, Hamelin, Reyes-Giordano, & Falcomata, 2011). Typically using match-to-sample (MTS) procedures, EBI teaches learners to treat physically disparate stimuli as functionally interchangeable by training overlapping conditional discriminations.…”

“…Two previous reviews (Fienup et al, 2011;Rehfeldt, 2011) suggested that EBI is an effective instructional intervention for teaching various skills across a variety of formats to adult learners, although both of these surveys are now dated. Both also used qualitative review methods, and a major purpose of the present article is to derive insights from the quantitative methods of meta-analysis.…”
