Recovery of energy from waste is appealing as it meets the energy demand and minimize the problems associated with waste management. Biodiesel derived from waste cooking oil was used in this study along with 1-propanol and 1-hexanol to make a comparative assessment of the alcohol addition on different diesel engine characteristics. Experimental trials were carried out by utilizing two ternary blends with 20% by volume of higher alcohols (propanol & hexanol), 30% by volume of biodiesel and 50% by volume of diesel. Later, the results were compared with binary blend of 50% by volume of diesel and 50% by volume of biodiesel (D50B50), pure diesel (D100) and biodiesel (B100). Results divulge that ignition delay period got longer for both Pr20 blend and HX20 blend which resulted in a 2% and 1% increase in peak cylinder pressure and 26% and 15% increase in peak heat release rate respectively against D50B50 blend operation. In comparison with the binary blend, the engine brake thermal efficiency improved by 3% and deteriorated by 2% against hexanol and propanol blend respectively. The NOx emission aggravated with ternary blends, nearly 8% higher NOx emission was observed for propanol blend when compared to hexanol blend. Both smoke opacity and carbon monoxide emission reduced, while unburnt hydrocarbon emission was on the higher side with the introduction of alcohol. It is concluded from the observations that the HX20 blend was found to be optimal in terms of improved engine performance and emission characteristics.

Introduction: Pterocarpus santalinus commonly known as Red sanders, is a member of the Fabaceae family. It is endemic to India and is classified as internationally endangered, with illegal harvesting posing a significant concern. The plant is known for its distinctive wood, which has great colour, beauty, and technical features. The red wood produces santalin, a natural dye that is used to colour pharmaceuticals and foodstuffs. The decoction made from the heartwood is said to have a variety of therapeutic characteristics in traditional medicine. It's been used to induce vomiting as well as treat eye illnesses, mental disorders, and ulcers. Aim: This study aimed to find the free radical scavenging activity of Pterocarpus santalinus ethanolic extract preparation. Materials and Methods: DPPH and H202 Assay was used to test the antioxidant activity of plant extract. Pterocarpus santalinus were purchased commercially from an herbal health centre,in Chennai. The obtained powder Pterocarpus santalinus stored in an airtight container. 5 gram of powder is mixed with 50 ml of ethanol and kept in the orbital shaker for 72 hours, after it has boiled in a heating mantle at 62-70℃ for 5-10 min. The extract is filtered using whatman filter paper 1.The filter extract again contracted using heating mantle. Results: The extract shows very good antioxidant activity for the P.santalinus extract by using DPPH and H202 Assay. Conclusion: The free radical scavenging activity of Pterocarpus santalinus ethanolic extract preparation was effective.

Introduction: Cassia auriculata, also known as tanner's cassia, belongs to the family Caesalpiniaceae is a drug used by Ayurvedic practitioners. The root, bark and leaves of this plant is traditionally used for the treatment of diarrhea, leprosy, uterine and liver disorders. This study aimed to find the Antibacterial activity of Cassia auriculata ethanolic extract preparation. Materials and Methods: Cassia auriculata in 5g of 50ml of ethanol then it kept in the orbital shaker for 72 hours. After 72 hrs it was bold using heating Mantle at 60-70 C for 10mins .Then it was filtered. Using whatman - No / filter paper .The filter extract was again concentrated using heating Mantle. Results: The extract shows very good Antibacterial activity of Cassia auriculata ethanolic extract preparation was effective. Conclusion: The Antibacterial activity of Cassia auriculata ethanolic extract preparation was effective.
