Collaborative multi-paradigm exploratory search

Abstract: New challenges for advanced web search interfaces and visualization tools arise as user needs shift from traditional lookup tasks towards more open ended search activities collectively described as exploratory search. Exploratory search opens new possibilities for employing social aspects for effective information retrieval. We facilitate exploratory search by providing users with an integrated search and navigation interface combining three search paradigms -full text search, view-based (faceted) search and c… Show more

“…Yee et al [34] presented an alternative interface for exploring large collections of images using hierarchical faceted metadata and dynamically generated query previews. Tvaroek & Bielikov [32] proposed a personalized faceted browser that facilitates exploratory search by providing users with an integrated search and navigation interface that combines full text, faceted, content-based and collaborative search. Now we will describe some of the exemplary exploratory search strategies as follows.…”

“…We need to utilize the power of the new web to ease the information retrieval. The current information visualizations are often ontology based visualizations utilizing hierarchical navigation [1], graphs [2] and various aspects of information space [3]. Their disadvantages are excessive complexity or lack of scalability.…”
