“…Specifically, the intergenerational collaborations foregrounding multimodal literacies helped reveal new ways for establishing care and respect in the YPAR space. As an example, during a literacies workshop that culminated in a hip‐hop cypher, each research group performed rap bars inspired by their selected research topics (Caraballo & Lyiscott, ). In one instance, a group of preservice teachers decided to remix the task by forging their own piece that would offer, as one teacher expressed, “a message of love for the students.” Another contributed to the cypher as follows: “Future teachers in the making / encouraging students in participating / young minds thriving / our team is shining / kings and queens that I keep finding.” After a somewhat nervous delivery, hands shaking and faces red, he was met with high‐fives, shouts of “bars, yeah!” and joyful laughter over the thumping beat.…”
