Segundo o Manual Diagnóstico e Estatístico de Transtornos
Mentais (DSM-5), o Transtorno do Espectro Autista (TEA) faz parte do
grupo de transtornos do neurodesenvolvimento que se manifesta ainda
na infância e apresenta como características déficits no
desenvolvimento, persistentes tanto na comunicação quanto na
interação social e, além disso, apresentam padrões restritivos e
repetitivos de comportamento, interesses ou atividades, que trazem
prejuízos sociais, pessoais e profissionais para o indivíduo
(AMERICAN PSYCHIATRIC ASSOCIATION, 2014;
OLIVEIRA; SERTIÉ, 2017).
