“…Thin dense ceramic membranes from Na-β"-Al 2 O 3 with sintered density 3.2 g/cm 3 and room sodium conductivity 0.004 S/cm [5] were used as initial material. In order to restore the degraded surface layer, which is the cause of apparent low protonic conductivity [5], membranes were at first saturated with sodium under ionic current in a solution, and then subjected to the partial ionic exchange Na + Ag + with simultaneous deposition of non-blocking silver electrodes. After such treatment the electrolytes had room sodium conductivity up to 0.033 S/cm and room hydrogen conductivity (in aqueous acetic acid) about 0.0005 S/cm.…”
