Coiled-Tubing-Conveyed Perforating for High-Pressure/High-Temperature Environment in Mexico Marine

Abstract: In the Bay of Campeche, Mexico Marine operators have recently commenced the development of their high pressure, high temperature (HPHT) oil and gas fields in order to meet the high demand. These new developments present tough conditions for all aspects of well drilling and completion activities. They are particularly challenging for performing well intervention, which have driven operators, manufacturing and service companies to develop innovative strategies for servicing these fields. For HP… Show more

“…CT not only provides an economical solution, but it also allows intervening the many highly deviated and horizontal wells of the region. Perforating with CT is typically done by using perforating heads that are actuated either hydraulically (Omar et al 2006;Molero et al 2007)-when creating a pressure pulse signature by varying the injection rate through the CT string, which remotely activates an electronic firing head-or mechanically-by displacing a ball through the tubing to create a pressure differential across the perforating head once the ball reached its seat at the bottomhole assembly (BHA). Whichever the method, a fluid is always required to detonate the charges downhole.…”
