“… 10 Some efforts to this end have been established in Africa, such as the Implementation Network for Sharing Population Information from Research Entities (INSPIRE) in East Africa, 11 the International Network for the Demographic Evaluation of Populations and Their Health (INDEPTH) in Western Africa, 12 and the South African Population Research Infrastructure Network (SAPRIN) in South Africa. 13 By ensuring FAIR data through communities of practice of LPS platforms, nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) and institutions operating LPSs have a potential to advance public health response through the creation of tools for knowledge access co-designed with end-users—both communities and policy actors –in order to respond to important policy questions at local, national, and regional levels.…”

“…The Agincourt HDSS study site, located in South Africa’s Mpumalanga Province, was established in 1992 and has a current population of approximately 115 000. 8 , 9 This population includes individuals residing within the study site, as well as those residing outside the HDSS catchment area (migrants) who report connections to their HDSS household through visits and remittances. In 2016, 18–40-year-olds constituted 41.3% of the Agincourt HDSS population, with the prevalence of migration in this age range approximately 40% among females and 60% among males.…”

“…Household SES was constructed using principal component analysis based on ownership of household assets and characteristics such as access to piped water, type of toilet, electricity and type of cooking fuel. 17 To provide population-wide estimates, all analyses were weighted to account for non-participation in the Vukuzazi Study, with weights calculated as the inverse probability of study participation in strata defined by age group and sex. Lastly, to ascertain relative contributions of disease states to all-cause mortality, we fit a Cox proportional hazards model to each individual condition and combinations of those conditions, adjusted for age, employment, SES and stratified by sex.…”
