“…In the literature the GSHE is sometimes referred to as a particular case of the coherent population trapping (CPT) effect [29,30]. From the discussion above, one could rather speak of a pure population trapping resonance when applying a treatment (like ours), whereẑ =ε, and of a coherence trapping resonance in a treatment with the choiceẑ =B.…”

“…4 for an energy level scheme of the 87 Rb D1 line). Dancheva et al [11] were the first to observe a Hanle/EIA resonance on a F g → F e = F g + 1 transition of the D1 line. They pointed out the fact that the EIA resonance can be observed in spite of the transition being open (radiative decay can occur from the excited state to either ground state hyperfine levels).…”

“…CPT resonances prepared in the Hanle configuration have been investigated for atoms irradiated by monochromatic laser field in a way that different polarization components couple the Zeeman sublevels of single hyperfine (hf) ground level to a common excited state and introduce coherence between ground magnetic sublevels at zero value of a scanned around it magnetic field B, orthogonal to the orientation/alignment of atoms. As shown in [3], in absence of depolarizing collisions of the excited state, and depending on the ratio of the degeneracies of the two hf levels involved in the optical hf transition, EIT and EIA sub-natural width resonances can be observed for degenerate two-level systems. EIT is realized when the conditions F g → F e = F g − 1, F g are met, while EIA is observed for F g → F e = F g +1.…”

“…The degenerate two-level systems provide many possibilities for investigation of CPT. Zeeman optical pumping destroyed by magnetic field (MF) allows the observation of EIT [2], as well as electromagnetically induced absorption (EIA) [3] in the atomic medium. CPT resonances prepared in the Hanle configuration have been investigated for atoms irradiated by monochromatic laser field in a way that different polarization components couple the Zeeman sublevels of single hyperfine (hf) ground level to a common excited state and introduce coherence between ground magnetic sublevels at zero value of a scanned around it magnetic field B, orthogonal to the orientation/alignment of atoms.…”
