Coherent control of quantum tunneling in an open double-well system

Abstract: We investigate how to apply a high-frequency driving field to the quantum control of a single particle in an open double-well system. The linear stability analysis points out that the stability depends on the external-field parameters and the loss (or gain) coefficients of the system, and the instability leads to transition of the Floquet quasi-energy from real to complex values and results in the decaying probabilities of the particle in the double-well. Combining the analytical solutions in the high-frequenc… Show more

“…The system (1) is dimensionless by adopting the Planck constant = 1 and using the reference frequency ω 0 = 100Hz to normalize the energy and the field parameters in J(t), G(t), and using ω −1 0 to normalize time t [28]. Taking the localized states |1 and |2 as the bases, we expand the quantum state |ψ of system (1) as…”

“…4gives τ = G 0 t + G1 ω sin ωt and Eq. (5) implies that |ψ 1 and |ψ 2 are two Floquet states with quasi-energies E ± = ± 0.25 + J 2 0 G 0 , and their linear superposition |ψ is a non-Floquet state [28]. Setting the initial probability amplitudes as the real constants C 1 (0) = √ 0.99 and C 2 (0) = √ 0.01, and the proportionality constant as J 0 = 1, from Eq.…”

“…As a common model in quantum systems, the doublewell structure has received much attention both theoretically and experimentally [1][2][3][4][5][6][7]. The influence of relevant parameters, e.g., relative depth and width of the double-well structure, on the wave function and energy levels of the related systems has been well investigated [8,9].…”

“…Quantum dynamics process in a double-well system with a periodically oscillating external field has been one of the subjects of long-lasting interest in diverse branches of physics and chemistry [1]. In particular, the coherent destruction of tunneling (CDT) which is an interesting phenomenon originally discovered by Grossmann has attracted much attention [2][3][4]. CDT phenomenon displays coherent control of quantum dynamics via a periodically oscillating external field, it has potential application in quantum motor and quantum-information processing and is very useful to understand much fundamental time-dependent processes [5,6].…”
