Coherent beam combination of three two-tone fiber amplifiers using stochastic parallel gradient descent algorithm

Abstract: Multitone radiation is a promising technique to mitigate stimulated Brillouin scattering effects in narrow-linewidth fiber amplifiers. We demonstrate coherent beam combination of three two-tone fiber amplifiers using a stochastic parallel gradient descent (SPGD) algorithm. Phase control on the fiber amplifiers are performed by running the SPGD algorithm on a digital signal processor. The contrast of far-field intensity pattern of a coherently combined beam is more than 85%. Experimental results validate that a… Show more

“…To test the precision of the DIC-FE strain measurement method, the experimental results are compared with the results obtained by the cubic spline interpolation method [15], as shown in Table 1. All of the results are the average of 20 independent experiments on the center point.…”

“…Nevertheless, it should be noted here that the coupler may have different effects on the left-going fields and the right-going fields. 39 Thus, in this paper, the transfer characteristic of the S×S coupler in the mth elementary laser is represented with two matrixes, i.e., (9) corresponding to the right-going field and the left-going field, respectively. The elements α …”
