“…There are divided opinions about the way of liver disease severity affects the levels of depression and anxiety. Some authors state that the Child-Pugh and Model for end-stage liver disease (MELD) score does not affect depression 3,4,7,39 . However, another studies suggest that the severity of liver assessed by Child-Pugh score directly affects depression and anxiety 14,40 .…”

“…Furthermore, it has been pointed out that this illness is as one of the most common clinical manifestations in a broad range of different diseases 2 . Additionally, results from numerous studies have shown that CLD are often associated with psychiatric comorbidity, particularly mood disorders (depression and anxiety), personality, sleep and other behavior and cognitive deficits [2][3][4][5][6] . The evidence about the presence of these symptoms in CLD patients is important because they have an adverse effect upon the course of illness in the form of amplification of physical symptoms, functional impairment, reduced treatment compliance, and decreased quality of life 2, 6-13 .…”

“…18 Meta-analysis of 52 studies reporting on the QOL of people based on the different types of RRT indicated that scores for patients on dialysis (HD and PD) were lower, indicating a poorer QOL, compared to those with a functioning renal transplant. 19 There are a small number of qualitative studies exploring the experience of waiting for a transplant of organs other than kidneys [20][21][22][23][24][25][26] but this experience may be fundamentally different because transplantation of organs such as the liver, heart and lung are lifesaving procedures undertaken when there is an impending and significant threat to life. The experience of waiting in this context may not be the same as waiting for a kidney where life can be maintained with dialysis for an indefinite period of time.…”
