Cognitive Perfectionism between Substance Addicteds and Non-Addicts

Abstract

Background and Aim: An addiction has been found in link with several cognitive functions of the brain. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the psychological factors providing susceptibility to drug dependency, perfectionism cognitions levels in addicted, and non-addicted groups. Methods: This study was a comparative causal study. The samples were selected through randomized multi-cluster categorical method among addicted and non-addicted populations. The standard tool of Flett et al., perfectionism cognitions inventory used to collect data from groups. The data analyzed through SPSS software using descriptive and t-test. Results: Results showed that the addicted group compared to the non-addicted one and had higher scores in perfectionism cognitions. This implies there is some difference in cognitive related factors (P > 0.05). Conclusion: These results indicate the importance of intrapersonal characteristics in drug dependency. These characters are regarded during drug-dependent therapies.
